Time: 2 Hours
In the following professional development, there are various things we want you to experience
from a teachers perspective, such as understanding how to effectively teach and facilitate the
lesson plan. On the other hand, we also expect you to work through the lesson plan as if you
were a student, in order to understand what they’ll be learning and how they may feel, going
through the lesson plan.
Teacher’s Experience
First, read the anchor text, and
class period one (3.2 in the lesson plan). It also may be useful to look through worksheet 1
as your students will be completing this while reading the anchor text. After this, consider the following questions:
- How will you implement this in your classroom?
- What challenges might you face?
- How will you ensure every student has a voice?
Journal down answers to these questions, as they may help during a class session.
Student’s Experience
As you reach the bottom of the lesson plan, it may be useful to pull up the beaded bag starter
world for yourself. Go through some of the questions that you are meant to ask the students
and ask yourself the following:
- How would I answer these questions?
- How might a student answer these questions?
- What questions might a student ask during discussion times?
Work through worksheet two,
as your students will be working on this in between lessons. Consider the following questions after worksheet two:
- What questions may students have about worksheet two?
- Will students have time to complete this in class or will it be assigned as homework?
Journal down answers to these questions, as they may help during a class session.
